There is not a vaccine available for hepatitis
C prevention.
Immune globulin is helpful for a hepatitis A
infection, but it does not destroy the hepatitis C virus and
does not prevent a hepatitis C infection.
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus, so
hepatitis C prevention means avoiding avoiding contact with
human blood.

Hepatitis C prevention is mainly a matter of
common sense.
If you don't have hepatitis C

Do not inject illegal drugs.

Do not share toothbrushes, razors or other items
that might have blood from a person infected with
hepatitis C on them.

Anyone getting a tattoo, or having cosmetic body
piercing done should seek assurances that all
instruments being used are thoroughly and properly
sterilized. Similarly, they should make sure
anyone handling instruments washes their hands,
wears latex gloves, and disinfects surfaces in the
area.

If you have acupuncture done, make sure the needles
are properly sterilized.
Travelers should be especially careful in
developing countries. Medical, surgical, and dental equipment
is not always sterilized properly, and is sometimes reused.

blood used for a transfusion has been screened and is safe.
