The Prostate Gland
The prostate is a gland about the size of a
walnut that is found only in the male pelvis. Women do not have
one.
The prostate is located behind the pubic bone,
under the bladder, and in front of the rectum.
The prostate secretes and stores a fluid that
makes up as much as one-third of the volume of the seminal
fluid that, along with spermatozoa, constitutes semen. The
fluid produced by the prostate is somewhat alkaline, which
helps neutralize the acidity of the vaginal tract, prolonging
the life span of sperm.
Prostate problems are common in men after the
