How is it stomach flu treated?
Since the first symptoms of a stomach virus are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, most people think a prescription medicine will help, but this
isn't always the case.
Since stomach flu is caused by a virus and not bacteria, antibiotics won't relieve the symptoms nor cure the illness. There are some
non-prescription anti-diarrhea medicine that can be effective. If you decide to go this route, be sure to take the recommended dosage.
The most effective stomach flu treatment is to rest the stomach and intestines.
If you haven't vomited for several hours, you can try soft bland foods. Avoid dairy food, fibrous foods like meats, coarse grains, and
vegetables.

Dehydration is a potentially serious complication. Someone with stomach flu loses a lot of fluids through vomiting and diarrhea.
Dehydration is especially dangerous for the very young and the very old. Acute dehydration can even be life-threatening and may require
intravenous delivery of fluids.
Water is usually the safest liquid to drink, but weak tea and apple juice may be okay.
Soft drinks that are caffeine free are generally acceptable as long as the drink has gone flat, that is, has lost its "fizz.
Acidic drinks like orange juice are generally not recommended, and you should avoid milk as long as diarrhea persists.
Chilling the liquids sometimes helps keep them down.
